I'm looking for a new set of tires to do some auto-x on. I am trying to decide between theses and a set of star specs. I am not sure if anyone has any experience with these or not?

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Michelin&tireModel=Pilot+Sport+Cup&partnum=055YR6SPORTCUP&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes

I am not sure if I want the burden of changing tires before every race, but after running on the beat set of Potenza's I got off Logan I will not put my all seasons back on and go to an auto-x. So its a decision of a good street tire or an unknown "slick"

If you're going to buy new, why not a set of Hoosier A6's? Probably cheaper than the Michies, and are dedicated auto-x tires, not track (road course) tires like the Michies. But be sure to get them "heat-cycled", unless you have done that yourself before. :burnout:

In my size the michies are $129 a piece w/ a $70 rebate on 4. Under $50 more than the star specs.

I've heard good things about the Star Specs.

I put Kuhmo Ecsta XS's on the Z3 and am blown away by how they perform.  Usually they are cheap too.

But I have to go with Dave...look at a set of true autocross tires.  BFG has the R1's back again, I used to use those and they were great but not sure what the new ones are like.  The Cup tires will probably never get enough heat in them in autox to get full grip.

If you're willing to change tires before each event, then get a slick.  Either the hoosier, kumho V710 or BFG R1.  If you're looking for a street tire for dual purpose, everybody raves about the star specs.  There have been some new street tires out there like the Hankook ventus RS-3, Bridgestone RE-11, Advan AD08, and Nitto NT-05, but they are most likely more expensive than the star specs with only marginally more grip.  If I were going to buy new dual purpose streets, I would absolutely get the star specs without hesitation.
