I just viewed the link from above, a lot of good info. Always break the axel nut lose with the car on the ground. This will save you a lot of grief. That tool they show that looks like a big pipe clamp is the tool to pull the inner race off of the hub. I have tried these before with little success. If you can borrow one then give it a try. If it doesn't work get the Dremel.

well after looking at the car again, i still dont think its the bearing, would a warped rotor cause a scarping noise?  if the wheel is off the noise isnt there when i move it but if i put the wheel back on the noise is there.  i wonder if the rotor is warped causing it to rub the pads. ill try and get a recording of it so you can hear.

Which wheel makes the noise? If it is a front wheel, look at your wheel well and see if you can find a shiny spot where something is rubbing. It could be a bad suspension bushing letting the wheel sit not quite straight or centered in the wheel well

the rubbing sound def sounds like its coming from the caliper area. there are no rub spots in the wheel well area.  it makes the noise with either set of rims on.

Dustin sent me a sound clip of it.  It is making a higher pitch scraping sound, not a low pitch bearing noise.  If the rotor is warped enough to be contacting the pad, you would notice the warped rotor while braking because the steering wheel would wobble severely.  Also, the sound clip he sent me was with the car in the air and spinning the wheel by hand.  That would eliminate any suspension squeek I can think of.

Could tie rods or the half shafts make a scraping squeeking noise?

if it was the bearing wouldn't it squeak whether a wheel was bolted to the car or not?

Quite likely that it may not make noise when you take the wheel off. You've changed the forces action on the bearing. I'm also pretty certain Charlie has fixed more then enough wheel bearings to tell just by a verbal account.

You can inspect them with nothing more spent then a tube of fresh grease. Pop the hubs off and clean the bearings. You'll likely find small pits in rollers or cages that aren't quite the right size any more.

It probably isn't loud or all the time yet because its only starting to go. This is pretty much what my forester did. I just accelerated the wear to one day cause I auto crossed it. You've got the newer hub design so it will take just a tad more to totally wreck them.

A lot of front bearings are no longer rollers. They are ball bearings.
BTW I just got done rebuilding 6 brand new ones for this year. :)

ok, well does anyone have a press i can borrow to do that job too when i drive up soon so jay and i can put in the new clutch?

and just so i am clear on what i need to buy:
new bearing
inner seal and outer seal
anything else needed?

i was planning on ordering my clutch either tomorrow or sat, i finally have the money, then maybe next week getting the bearing/seals.

not sure how soon i will be up in erie cuz my wife might be getting induced next thurs so that might make it hard to drive up soon.  i was thinking of driving up on a sat night or sun early morning so jay and i have plenty of time to put in the new clutch then he can resurface the flywheel at work mon and we can finish the job mon and i can drive back mon or tues morn.

and thx everyone

You'd have to check out the design I can't remember if there is just one bearing or an inner and outer.
