Misery Bay goes to Wilmington Match Tour 2014

A few of our members traveled to Wilmington Match Tour for 2014 recently. Here are the details as told by Logan!!

Myself and the Double-Nick twins kicked off our autocross season last weekend at the Wilmington Match Tour. The match tour is a very different format than any of the other national events and none of us really understood it. But it is spring, it was driving and it was at the best autocross site short of Lincoln. Having completed a Match Tour, I understand it now, and I’ll do my best to explain it.

The Match Tour runs like 2 separate events, one Saturday and one Sunday. Saturday, is like a typical autocross. There were a little over 200 cars, so we were split into 4 heats. Everyone gets 4 runs on the same course. At the end of the day, class winners are awarded and the “normal” autocross is over. Sunday is when it got complicated.

The top 8 drivers (PAX) from each heat are put into the Pro-Shootout. The Shootout is kind of like bracket racing. 2 cars go head to head on 1 run, each having a dial in time that they are trying to beat. The dial in is the fastest time from their class. It differs from bracket racing in that going faster is still ok. The winner is who gets closer to their dial in, or beats it by the most. If you beat your dial in, your dial in becomes your new fastest time. The 32 cars compete in a bracket until a shootout winner is crowned.

So, what about the rest of the cars?
